Ashtanga Yoga: Ashtanga is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures— a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

Gentle Yoga/Yin: This class will begin with a restorative yoga "flow" sequence, incorporating some Sun Salute variations, standing poses, and moderate balances. We will take our time transitioning between poses, and linger in the poses a bit longer than usual to offer a good stretch and greater understanding of alignment. The class will end with 20-30 minutes of traditional "Yin" poses. These are familiar seated poses held for 2-3 minutes time, offering an even greater release for tight hips, hamstrings, low backs, and shoulders. This is a perfect class for those who enjoy a little slower pace, those new to yoga, healing injuries, Seniors, or even athletes who just need a good counter-balance to their vigorous workouts. All levels are welcome, and will find great benefits!

Using a combination of mat and prop based Pilates/Yoga bodywork, you will leave feeling strong, toned, and energized. And of course, there will be relaxation poses at the end! Beginner to advanced practitioners welcome and accommodated.
Pilates with Props: Are you interested in taking your Pilates mat work to the next level? Perhaps you are a regular yoga practitioner but new to the world of Pilates and are curious about the many core strengthening and muscle lengthening benefits of a Pilates practice? Then join us in this one hour Pilates mat class, using various props including Pilates Portable Studio - a foam-padded exercise bar with attached foot straps and resistance bands, The Magic Circle Resistance Bands, hand weights and fit balls. This class will help you develop a strong, toned & flexible body. The Studio provides the 'props' for participants to use.
Power Yoga: This vigorous class will begin with sun salutations, warming the body for a dynamic multi-directional practice in the Vinyasa flow style. This level emphasizes correct alignment and endurance. This class is fun for students who are ready to explore some arm balances, backbends and inversions. You will go deeper into your practice by exploring core breath techniques and utilizing the bandhas. Expect to sweat! Some previous yoga experience is recommended.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga: Vinyasa Flow is a practice where yoga postures or asanas are connected through the breath. Classes build heat, endurance, flexibility and strength. The creative sequencing found in a vinyasa class is often built around sun salutations. Clients concentrate on the learning of traditional yoga postures, breathing, mindfulness and listening to the body.
Yoga Flow: Yoga Flow classes will focus on linking movement to breath. Expect a well-rounded hour including standing poses, flowing sequences, balancing postures, and seated poses. Focus will be on breathing, increasing range-of-motion, flexibility, strength, and balance all while reducing stress and tension. All levels welcome and accommodated.
Yoga Sweat: Yoga Sweat classes are a cold-weather warm-you-up twist on Yoga Flow: The room will be heated to a temperature between 80-85 degrees. Clients are encouraged to bring a hand towel and bottle of water. Enjoy the warmth during the winter months and be prepared to sweat!
Yoga Fusion: This is for all you yogi's who know you need core work, but hate to do Pilates! We are infusing our vinyasa flow yoga with strong core exercises in order to develop a strong, toned foundation from which to deepen your entire yoga practice.

It was quite by accident that I stumbled upon my first yoga class. I had been taking belly dancing lessons with a friend in downtown Spokane. Needing to use the restroom, I entered a hallway shared with a yoga studio. I could not believe my eyes. A group of several people where practicing yoga together in the candlelight. I was mesmerized by the synchronized movement of their bodies. The studio was comfortably warm and the sweet smell of incense was in the air. Up until that night I had been practicing yoga, alone, in the small space between my couch and TV. My whole life changed that night.
That was in the year 2000, and yoga has been a daily part of my life ever since. Every day I am challenged and sustained by this practice. Sometimes the challenge lies in just finding the time to practice, sometimes, in the postures themselves. And yet, sometimes I am challenged and sustained by what this practice uncovers within my spirit.
What began as merely a physical practice, started to unravel something inside of me. Practicing for the past decade has given me strength, stamina, and vitality. But on a different level, I feel yoga has allowed me to become a more patient mother, loving wife, and understanding friend. I began teaching in 2005 with a desire to help people enrich their lives with yoga. My goal as a teacher is to meet each student where they are physically and mentally. It gives me great joy to provide assistance and support so that each person can meet the challenges and joys of his or her unique life.
APRIL
I took my first yoga class almost 15 years ago as an addition to my fitness routine and was immediately drawn to its calming, therapeutic effects. It didn’t take long for me to develop a love for the practice with its ability to help deepen one’s connection to our own body, patterns of movement, and our breath. I’ve always been very active participating in a variety of movement styles but each time I step on my mat, I feel as though it was where I was meant to be.
In 2007 wanting to deepen both my understanding of yoga and my practice, I began an inquiry into yoga philosophy and practice styles and found a great attraction to the disciplined eight limbed approach and the physical style of Vinyasa Flow. The graceful movement synchronized with one’s breath combined with physical strength makes me feel alive, strong and centered.
It wasn’t until 2009 when I was asked if I would take over a yoga class at my local gym that I became certified and began teaching. That same year I completed a teacher training certification with Yoga Fit and in March of 2010 completed an additional 200 hour certification with Yoga School of Spokane. Through my 200 hour teacher training I developed a much deeper appreciation for the style of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in the lineage of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and it is in this style that I share my love of yoga.
I firmly believe in remaining a student of yoga and as such continue to study with very experienced yogis both from our area and beyond. There is so much to learn and each of us has a unique perspective of this practice we call yoga and of its ability to affect our lives. I feel truly blessed to be able to share mine.

CASSIE
My first yoga class was in college and it was the best class I ever took. While I loved the strength and flexibility I gained, I quickly became enthralled with the yoga sutras. I continue to study the 8 limbs and use them as a source of inspiration in my life. I received my 200 hour certification in 2006 and my 500 hr certification in 2007 both from Cloud Nine Yoga Studio and School. I have since then taken teacher trainings at the Spokane Yoga School as well as with Julie Rader of Mukti Yoga.
I love learning about yoga- my husband has nicknamed me the yoga nerd- and I get genuinely excited about Sanskrit, mantras, mudras and discovering new poses. What happens on the yoga mat has a way of changing your life and I try to bring my life experience to my teaching. My hope is to offer what I know to my students so that they may find what they’re looking for in their yoga practice.

JACQUI
Yoga and Pilates is a major passion in my life both on a personal level and on a teaching level. I journeyed into yoga first as a therapy for an injury back in 2000. I found that even though I had been a traditional fitness instructor for several years, the incredible connection to the mind being in every cell of the body left me moving forward in healing directions that are limitless.
My experience in teaching reaches over several years of owning my own yoga and Pilates studio and teaching credit yoga and Pilates classes at Whitworth University, I have taught at fitness clubs both in class and personal training and have clocked numerous hours of volunteer work in the community. In addition love the fitness end of the body spectrum I love cycling, skiing, waterskiing, and fishing! My teaching mainly consists of Pilates Reformer/Chair personal training, Pilates Mat, and yoga with an emphasis on athletes.
MARY BETH
I began practicing yoga about 9 years ago, after the birth of my second child and fell in love with the changes I saw in my body and with the calm I began to feel internally. It was the first time I felt my mind settle in a way that I was able tap into in my own instincts and intuition. For me, practicing yoga allows me to stay connected to my true self. After practicing for about a year, I knew I wanted to share that experience with others and began the process of becoming an instructor. Once I made that decision I had to build the confidence to tackle many of my fears. Role-modeling this process for my girls kept me focused on my goal until after months of training, I finally was able to help guide students through their own yoga practice! It was the sweetest gift to share and I have been learning and growing as an instructor ever since.
I enjoy practicing and instructing Vinyasa Flow Yoga to students of all levels. About 3 years ago, I opened a yoga studio in Spokane and I am blessed now to have the opportunity to bring that experience together with my partners and amazing instructors at Sol Renewal to continue the journey!
MICHELLE
Mind/Body Fitness came into my life 10 years ago after sustaining injuries in a car accident. One of my health practitioners suggested taking a yoga or Pilates class in order to increase the strength and flexibility in my body, as we worked toward the healing and rehabilitation of my injuries. Taking that first yoga class changed my life – I saw the difference in my body almost overnight. Shortly after that I added Pilates matwork, and I have been hooked ever since. An added bonus: I lost weight!
I became an instructor of both disciplines because I wanted to share the gift of yoga and Pilates with others – you can get stronger and more balanced, you can increase your range of motion and flexibility, and you can move into a place of health and wellness by practicing these exercises. As we like to say in mind/body fitness, it’s all about the journey. I have taught in studios, gyms, and health clubs all over Spokane. I am honored to now be a part of the vision of Sol Renewal Yoga & Pilates Studio. Teaching yoga and Pilates has been and continues to be a wonderful journey for me – a journey I hope you will want to explore as well.
PAULA
The root word of yoga is yuj, meaning to yoke or bring into union. As a student and teacher of yoga, I love being present to observe the unification that takes place on our mats. Some days this unification comes from our bodies finding grace in a pose for the first time; other days it is the peace that is found by following the breath; and then there are those times when we come to our practice distracted by life, far removed from the moment at hand, and like a close friend, our yoga brings us back to the present, to what matters most.
We come from different paths and yet our yoga is a common thread. My first yoga class was in 2000 while I was a student at Gonzaga University. After undergoing the first of three shoulder surgeries, I turned to yoga to help with rehabilitation. Like so many, I was originally drawn to practicing for the physical benefits. My shoulder healed, I was strong – even stronger than before my surgery – and I loved the way I felt after a hard asana practice. In 2006, I went through a difficult time of loss and sorrow. My mat became a safe place to grieve, to cry, to heal, to laugh, to embrace life. I began to understand more fully the gifts of yoga – the yoking of mind, body, and spirit. In 2009, I started teaching and completed my 200 RYT in October 2011.
What do you need from your mat today? Asana. A more introspective practice. Time to be still and listen. Time to explore and grow. The beauty of yoga is that it is always there giving us what we need – often before we ask.
I look forward to seeing you on your mat. Namaste.
